Things to know before & after your headshot session
please read everything
BEFORE:
Two types of headshots: commercial, and theatrical
What's YOUR type? (see examples of 2 theatrical, 1 commercial types above)
How do you think casting directors or agents will see you? Blue collar, executive, upscale, mom/dad, grandparent, teacher, tough girl/guy, college student , suburban, country, downscale, diner waitress, etc.
What to wear: Be sure all clothing is ironed & stain-free. Blue/green eyes: blues, greens, gem hues in general are great. For brown eyes & darker skin tones: autumn hues such as brown, eggplant, red, emerald green & navy blue are terrific. Even if you don’t wear orange, purple or pink in your daily life, it just might look smashing on camera for a commercial look, but no white unless you have a jacket or sweater over it. Be sure to bring shirts/sweaters/jackets of solid colors or with minimal patterns, plaids are good for a commercial or character look, and no logos. You can just wear jeans or any pants as you'll be sitting for the entire session. But, being comfortable with what you’re wearing is most important.
Ladies, simple collars on shirts/sweaters are key; choose v-neck, crew neck or scoop neck. NO bows, ruffles, large cowl or anything that could distract from your face. Consider very simple earrings, if any, no necklaces & please be sure to wear a tank or camisole under your top for a quick change or maybe even an additional look.
No matter which session you choose, bring several options of clothes.
Please do not arrive more than 10 minutes early as I may have another client before you & will need time to sanitize make-up/dressing room area.
If your scheduled time is 9:00 we'll go over wardrobe til 9:15ish, hair/mu til 10:15ish then begin shooting!
Hair & Make-up: PLEASE SEE 'HAIR/MAKE-UP ARTISTS' PAGE for rates/to schedule/ask questions
Professional make-up is strongly recommended for adult women, but If you're proficient with make-up for camera, and want to do your own please arrive ‘camera ready’ (hair & make up completed). Bring some of your own make-up & hair products for touch ups, and always use matte foundation/powder without shimmer.
MEN: please bring your own powder and concealer.
Once we decide on a date & time you will reach out to these talented artists directly to see who is available for the chosen date, keep in mind that I'm flexible! Your HMUA will stay throughout the entire session.
Payment for MUA will be made directly to them, not to c. dyer photography.
AFTER:
After our shoot all the pictures are uploaded and scrutinized, we'll choose the ones that best represent you. You'll be sent these UNretouched shots. Your job is to choose the 1, 2 or 3 shots (depending on your session) that you want to have retouched. Take your time - it’s always helpful to have several professional opinions on your headshots.
After you select your photos a very light retouch is done and sent back to you ASAP.
Additional retouched photos after initial choice(s) are $25 per photo.
50 4x6 post cards available for $35. - great for 'thank you' notes!
Method of Payment:
Payment is to be made day of shoot. Cash, check (payable to Catherine Dyer), Venmo, Zelle & all credit cards accepted (Square fee to be added at time of transaction)
Printing:
We highly recommend having headshots professionally printed rather than printing as needed at CVS, Staples, etc., the image is dramatically affected and doesn't look professional. Remember, your headshot is the 1st thing people will see, so you don't want to look unprofessional.
